Those who know Redd Road are invited to a meeting next month aimed at getting citizens’ thoughts on potential safety and traffic flow improvements.
The Public Engagement Forum will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, at Community Place (the small building next to City Hall at 2006 Heritage Walk). No need to RSVP; just come with questions, opinions, and suggestions on what should be done next.
Redd Road is a corridor in Central Milton serving several neighborhoods and connecting two other major roadways – specifically Freemanville and Hopewell roads. Increased traffic and residential growth have contributed to congestions, operational deficiencies at key intersections, and safety concerns. There’s also been interest in making parts of this 1.1-mile road more accessible for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Currently, the City envisions transportation and pedestrian improvements focused on:
- Hopewell Road and Redd Road (with a possible traffic signal, turn lanes, and a pedestrian crossing feature)
- Hagood Road and Redd Road (potentially adding a single-lane roundabout and pedestrian crossings)
- Thompson Road and Redd Road (with plans possibly including a single-lane roundabout, pedestrian crossings, and new sidewalk)
- Freemanville and Redd Road (with possible turn lanes and traffic calming devices)
- Sidewalk improvements (closing a gap with the addition of 1,020 feet of ADA-compliant sidewalk)
- An 8-to-10-foot wide multi-use path (which could accommodate pedestrians and cyclists along the south side of Redd Road)
This project’s current phase involves gathering data and public input to inform engineering designs for this TSPLOST-funded project. This and needed right-of-way acquisition is likely to extend through 2027, after which construction can begin.
