Retirement Reception for Bob Buscemi

Bob Buscemi’s fingerprints – perhaps best manifested in many blueprints that, in time, have helped define our community – can be seen all around Milton. And later this month, anyone can come out to thank him for his immeasurable contributions.

Unfortunately for Milton but fortunately for him, Buscemi is about to retire after a long and impactful career in public service. Before he goes, we are inviting residents to join us for a special drop-in reception from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 13, in his honor in City Hall. No RSVPs are required; simply come anytime in that window to say hello and, in this case, goodbye to a great friend of Milton.

City Hall, as it turns out, is one of several public buildings that Buscemi designed. In the heart of downtown Crabapple – a part of Milton that Bob shaped in many ways – it intentionally doesn’t mirror cookie-cutter municipal buildings that you might find elsewhere. With its distinctive wood beams, sliding barn doors, large windows offering visible access to the outdoors, modern amenities, and other features, it has a uniquely Milton feel. This is because Buscemi understands the look and feel of Milton as well as anyone in our history, not to mention what resonates with citizens. In addition, he has routinely demonstrated the intellect, talent, enthusiasm, management skills, and energy to bring major projects to fruition.

Other examples of distinctly Milton spaces that Buscemi has envisioned and brought to life include the Public Safety Complex (including Fire Station 44, the Police Station, and Milton Municipal Court), the Community Center at Milton City Park and Preserve, and Fire Station 42 off Thompson Road.

Buscemi has made his mark on numerous private developments as well. Working closely with citizens, City leaders, as well as builders and developers, he’d routinely recommend modifications to commercial and other buildings throughout our community. He worked diligently to ensure that these fit Milton’s aesthetic and lived up to our high standards.

Most recently, Bob has been the City’s lead on Destination Deerfield, the multi-faceted initiative aimed at fostering a vibrant, welcoming, successful area that reflects Milton and our community’s vision for it. His earnest belief in our community, his deep comprehension of how our City operates, his knack for building strong relationships that serve the greater good, and his unmatched diligence have moved this pivotal project forward.

In all his work, Buscemi consistently put our citizens first. That’s why we opened the April 13 event to everyone, knowing how he has directly and indirectly positively impacted so many people over the years. We are going to miss him greatly, and knowing many others feel the same.
