The City of Milton owns and maintains numerous active parks and facilities - used for sports and other programs and activities - as well as passive preserves, where people enjoy nature without development,  fields or buildings. All of these parks and facilities  belong to Milton residents and serve as great showcases of the city's love of the outdoors.

City-affiliated program providers use these active facilities on a regular basis. Individuals and groups can also rent them out, availability permitting. The Lakhapani Preserve is a serene natural getaway set off Lackey Road, a rural gravel road accessible from Arnold Mill Road, in southwest Milton. Its 106 acres include a 1.5-mile trail that winds up and down amid trees, along and over bubbling creeks, next to Wolff Lake, and even past occasional cows munching in an adjoining pasture.

The City of Milton purchased this picturesque property from the Wolff Family in 2018 utilizing voter-approved Greenspace Bond funds. While the main trail largely existed at that point, the City has since made improvements -- like adding a gravel parking lot that holds about 15 cars -- to accommodate citizens who want to enjoy this greenspace.

The City Council offered direction on October 2, 2023, to name the property Lakhapani Preserve. Lakhapani is a combination of two Hindi words, Lakh (meaning 100,000) and Pani (meaning waters), the name that the Wolff family being began using at the suggestion of a visiting Indian tea plantation owner impressed by the creeks winding amid the trees and to the lake, especially after strong and sustained rains.
