Milton’s Planning Commission on Wednesday will consider a preliminary plat for a new neighborhood off Hamby Road as well as requests related to an effort to turn an accessory structure into an “Artist Studio.”
The August 28 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers (2006 Heritage Walk). People can attend in-person or watch the meeting online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jjan9gYoy44.
Made up of seven individuals appointed by the Mayor and Councilmembers, Milton’s Planning Commission weighs in on variance requests and is part of the City’s public hearing process (meaning other City committees discuss and share their thoughts on some of the same topics). The Commission also evaluates and recommends changes to zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations, zoning maps, and overall planning processes.
The committee will begin Wednesday’s meeting by reviewing a preliminary plat for a proposed subdivision in northeastern Milton called Hamby Manor. The applicant is seeking to build 14 homes on 20.27 acres for this new development off Hamby Road.
The next item relates to a requested Use Permit and four-part concurrent variance pertaining to a 3.32-acre property at 900 Pleasant Hollow Trail, which is in Central Milton off Providence Road. The Use Permit is to allow an existing barn-like accessory structure to be considered an “Artist Studio” (for use by the applicant’s bookbinding and leather goods businesses).
The variance requests are to allow this existing accessory structure to:
- Remain in front of the property’s primary resident
- Remain as is – and not have to be redesigned in accordance with predominant commercial building types
- Remain as is – and not have to be redesigned to add more openings (to make the ratio of openings to solids 30% to 50%)
- Remain as is – and not have to be redesigned so its window arrangements mirror the side with the principal entrance
The Planning Commission then will hear the latest on the Deerfield Implementation Plan, which is a dynamic initiative aimed at outlining a community-driven division for an area that includes the Milton segments of Highway 9, Windward Parkway, Deerfield Parkway, Morris Road, Webb Road, and other places in that vicinity. The agenda’s final item could lead to two changes to the Planning Commission’s 2024 calendar – with meetings on November 14 (instead of November 20) and December 19 (instead of December 18).
Before then – and after Wednesday’s meeting – this committee is next scheduled to convene on September 25.
