Milton High School once again will host the greater community on its front lawn on September 11 to remember the tragedy, the people, and the impact of the terrorist attacks that took place 23 years ago.
Wednesday’s 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. near the school’s main entrance at 13025 Birmingham Highway. While most of those in attendance are generally students and staff (and while classes will be in session), Milton High graciously has invited citizens who want to congregate and reflect to join the event.
We in the City are thankful, too, that our first responders are included as well. Fire Chief Gabe Benmoussa, in fact, will be among the speakers, as will Mayor Peyton Jamison.
They’ll be joined by Milton High Principal Brian Jones as well as students who will tell the stories of people who lost their lives on that clear September day. Members of the school’s chorus, orchestra, and band will perform songs suitable for the occasion as well.
The ceremony’s keynote speaker will be Mark Caruso, who was in Lower Manhattan that day. After surviving that attack, he has relived it regularly as one of the original docents at the September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York City. Caruso will travel from Connecticut to share his personal story.
