The Lackey Dam at Lakhapani Reserve will undergo needed upgrades later this month – during which a portion of that greenspace’s loop trail will be closed to walkers.

This work comes days after the City Council approved a construction contract with JOC Construction to address issues with the dam, which contains the preserve’s 2-acre pond. That work will include removing trees, stabilizing the downstream slope, and repairing the dam’s primary outfall.

To get it accomplished safely and efficiently on Saturday (September 28) and Sunday (September 29), the part of the trail nearest the dam – bordering the western portion of the lake, between the 1.5 and 1.3 sections – will be closed, as will access to that point from the access road (which is not far from the trailhead). More work, and another corresponding closure, will likely happen on October 5th and 6th as well.

People can still walk the vast majority of the trail. They’ll just have to veer left at the trailhead and, once they reach the closed portion, turn around to return from the direction they came.
