We’ve heard about – and many of us have seen – coyotes in Milton. We know that much. But there’s lots more many of us don’t know.
Like how common are coyotes? Should I not let my dogs in the yard? Are my children at risk? What exactly are coyotes on the prowl looking for? And when – whether it’s the time of the day or part of the year – should I be most concerned, if I should be worried at all?
Those are the kinds of questions that could get answered on November 6 at Community Place, the small building next to City Hall. That’s the date and place for a free, expert-led discussion entitled “Wildlife 101: Coyotes on the Move.”
The experts in this case include Brandon Sanders, a trained expert who collaborates with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to monitor and track wildlife such as coyotes, bears, and wolves. Sanders, in fact, is involved in the Atlanta Coyote Project – a regional, scientist-led research and educational initiative to promote understanding of coyotes in our area. And he’ll be at Community Place next Wednesday to share information and answer your questions.
There’s no cost for this presentation and the back-and-forth. Still, to get a good handle on numbers (and understanding space in Community Place is limited), we’re asking people to sign-up in advance at https://secure.rec1.com/GA/city-of-milton/catalog?filter=c2VhcmNoPTMzNDk1NzA= (which can also be accessed via www.miltonga.gov/Registration).
Depending on interest, we’re hoping this will be the first of many “Wildlife 101” talks. Is there something outdoors-related that you’d like to learn more about? If so, simply email your topic or question to parksandrec@miltonga.gov.
