Elements of the community’s feedback on what makes the most sense for the Deerfield were on display, literally, on Wednesday night at the Milton Municipal Court – site of the latest “Open House” for the Deerfield Implementation Plan.
Dozens attended this public engagement event, one of several proactive efforts to involve citizens in the effort to chart the future of an area that includes what’s
off Highway 9, Windward Parkway, Morris Road, Deerfield Parkway, Webb Road, and nearby areas. Their night began going around the courtroom to view a draft trail loop map as well as renderings that incorporated findings from public input to date – in terms of what people liked and didn’t like – to show how that might translate into new developments, trails, and landscaping around Deerfield.
Project team members then gave a presentation, interspersed at times by answering people’s questions, that laid out what

progress has been made on this project as well as what’s to come. Hearing from the community is a big part of that effort, and it continued Wednesday night. After the talk was done, people could add comments to certain boards as well as converse with team members.
In addition to the design of buildings, landscaping, and roads, a major topic of discussion was a trail loop envisioned for this area. Making use of almost entirely existing or in-the-works trails, this – as well as cross-over paths, like one envisioned along Highway 9 – would allow people to traverse this area (on foot, bike, or even PTV) without having to be in the car.
While the December 11 meeting marked another important milestone, there’s still more to be done to create the Deerfield Implementation Plan and everything it entails. This will likely include more presentations, more engagement, and more finely tuned plans.
