Milton weathered a winter storm in mid-January that brought a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain -- though, thankfully, no major issues because of them.
Snow canvassed the city's roads the morning of Friday, January 10, causing widespread slippery conditions. As the day wore on, the form of precipitation changed to different forms of ice. This only exacerbated the challenges as the City urged people to stay home until conditions improved.
It helped a great deal, too, that residents generally heeded these warnings, which contributed to only a small number of incidents. Milton Police officers and firefighters responded promptly to those, with no notable driving-related injuries reported.
Meanwhile, Public Works crews -- with some assistance from partners in Parks and Recreation as well as Tri Scapes -- worked around the clock Friday-through-Saturday to make Milton roads as safe as possible. Their plows and salt spreaders repeatedly traversed the city, focusing first on main/collector roads and then on subdivision streets.
Temperatures dipped into the teens on Saturday night, raising concerns that anything that melted might freeze. The extensive efforts on Friday and Saturday, though, mitigated the potential for issues, even as road crews did what they could to address dangerous spots.
The City greatly appreciates the cooperation of Milton citizens. Not only did you stay safe but, as evidenced by the abundance of snowmen that popped up, you had fun, too.
