After 'open house,' survey opens for input on new active park's features

Woman Writing on Board closeupPeople with ideas on what should go in Milton’s newest active park can now join dozens of citizens who attended Tuesday night’s kick-off “open house”  – though, in their case, they can do it online.

To access this brief survey, go to: https://losedesignengage.mysocialpinpoint.com/deerfield-area-active-park-master-plan.

The City plans to build an active park on 24.4 acres of recently acquired property along Deerfield Parkway in southeastern Milton. Athletic fields will be incorporated, though their placement, other components, and the final design are still being determined -- with public input crucial in helping guide that process.

On Tuesday, about 50 citizens came to Milton Municipal Court to share such valuable feedback. They did so talking to City officials and Kids Girl Placing Dotsmembers of the project team, as well as by using stickers to “vote” for what features (in addition to fields) they most wanted at the Deerfield. Options included a playground, basketball or pickleball courts, a pavilion and/or outdoor event space, and an off-leash dog park.

Those same potential amenities, as well as others, are among the alternatives listed on the online survey. People can rank them from their highest to lowest preference, along with offering general thoughts on what they want at the new Deerfield active park.

While there’s nothing scheduled at this moment, there will be more opportunities for citizens to be part of the park-planning process. This might involve more public engagement meetings, surveys, and City Council and committee meetings. Details about those opportunities will be shared on City social media channels as well as www.miltonga.gov/DeerfieldActivePark, a webpage dedicated to this project.
