Milton Public Work's team helps make icy South Fulton roads safer

Post Date:01/24/2025 10:49 AM
South Fulton 1South Fulton is one of the most southernly cities in our county, about 45 miles away from the most northerly one in Milton. But when they needed help, we in Milton answered the call – with action.

That assistance came in the form of Jay Hadid and Matt Fallstrom, two members of our Public Works team, on Thursday morning heading south inside City trucks equipped with plows, spreaders, and salt. While Milton escaped the most recent winter weather event largely unscathed (aside from being frigid cold like everyone else), the City of South Fulton was not so lucky.

Even after the falling snow had passed, numerous South Fulton roads – or at least significant portions thereof – remained dangerously icy, posing threats to drivers and South Fulton 5also hurting local businesses. Time was of the essence Thursday as Fulton County Schools had instituted a 2-hour delay for the start of schools south of I-20, giving crews a critical deadline to make all roads passable for buses and parents.

Matt and Jay joined South Fulton crews in trying to clear and treat roads in that city, which has well over 100,000 residents and encompasses 86 square miles. We in Milton were glad to support our Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency (AFCEMA) partner in doing so. Part of “paying it forward” is that you never know when Milton will need help ourselves and hope other cities step up for us. Part of it is that it’s simply a good thing to do.
