Fire CARES offers more free public classes for CPR, 'Stop the Bleed'

Post Date:01/24/2025 4:39 PM

AED kitMilton Fire CARES is offering yet more classes – two focused on CPR and AEDs, plus a third for “Stop the Bleed” – to give even more citizens knowledge they can use to potentially save a life.

The upcoming sessions align with Fire CARES’ mission to enhance the health of our community. Part of that involves bringing medical services to those who need them most. And another part is more about giving regular people tools to improve health outcomes, including special training in valuable emergency medical techniques.

All Milton firefighters are paramedics or EMTs or, in the case of Derek Hofmann, a registered nurse. As such, they and ambulance workers have expertise to treat those people suffering from medical emergencies. Still, they can’t be everywhere at once. Plus, every passing minute can make a major difference in whether or not a person survives a medical crisis.

That is why CARES makes a point of teaching citizens so they can step up before first responders arrive. Those includes these classes coming up:

  • CPR (including use of AEDs and what to do if someone is choking) on Monday, February 10 (5:30-8:30 p.m.) at Fire Station 44 at 13690 Highway 9
  • Stop the Bleed” (an interactive course guiding participants through three ways to control bleeding) on Saturday, February 22 (9:30-11:30 a.m.) at Fire Station 43 at 750 Hickory Flat Road
  • CPR (as described above) also on Saturday, February 22 (11:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m.) at Fire Staton 43 at 750 Hickory Flat Road

There’s no cost for any of these in-person classes (none of which culminate in an official Red Cross or American Heart Association certifications). Still, each one is limited to 12 people, and they typically fill up past.
