Citizens can weigh in on proposed Arnold Mill Hamlet Overlay at CZIM

Arnold Mill nodes single graphicAn element of the Arnold Mill Small Area Plan is moving from vision-to-reality – starting with a Community Information Zoning Meeting on Tuesday night.

The specific topic under consideration is the potential addition of an “Arnold Mill Hamlet Overlay” to City Code. This overlay specifies zoning regulations and criteria that must be met for developments in two small, defined portions of the Arnold Mill character area in southwestern Milton. These are the “Chadwick Node,” in the far western part near the Little River and the Cherokee County line, as well as the “Cox Road Node” around where Cox Road meets State Route 140.

To review the language for that proposed overlay, view the CZIM meeting agenda at https://www.miltonga.gov/home/showdocument?id=8164. The January 28 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers (2006 Heritage Walk).

Unlike with City committees, there is no set presentation for Community Information Zoning Meetings. Rather, citizens and stakeholders are welcome to come by to discuss and share their opinions about the subject-at-hand with City staff. That feedback can then be passed on to City committees and the Council if and when they take up the same matter.

Over many months, the City listened intently to citizens and stakeholders while assessing the area in-depth in the process of creating the Arnold Mill Small Area Plan. This long-term guide aimed to preserve this area’s special, rural feel while suggesting possible improvements for the community’s sake. You can learn more about that project, including a link to the plan and key milestones along the way, at www.miltonga.gov/ArnoldMill.
