Milton’s Design Review Board and Planning Commission will hold a rare joint meeting Tuesday night focused on Deerfield’s future.

The February 4 meeting will begin after the conclusion of the regularly scheduled DRB meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. that same night. Both of these City committees have been among those involved – along with the general community – in the creation of a Deerfield Implementation Plan. This will articulate a vision for the look, feel, amenities, and appropriate uses for an area that encompasses what’s in and around Highway 9, Windward Parkway, Webb Road, Deerfield Parkway, and Morris Road. Citizens and stakeholders have played vital roles in informing what goes into this plan as well as a corresponding “Design Guide” for developers. As the project has progressed and City staff have had conversations with prospective developers, the possibilities has been raised to implement City Code changes that align with the Deerfield Implementation Plan’s overarching vision.

Potential alterations along those lines will be touched on Tuesday night. Design Review Board and Planning Commission members can offer their unique perspectives and expertise as part of this discussion. Citizens can also share their thoughts during the public comment period.

A similar discussion is planned for the evening of February 10, when the Planning Commission will join the City Council at a Work Session also at City Hall. If there are text amendments as part of this project, those would be discussed at multiple public meetings – and citizens could weigh in at any of those.
