Take survey to share thoughts on draft Milton Trails Blueprint update

Draft Trails Blueprint Update Cropped without sidebarWhat do you think about the proposed updates to the Milton Trails Blueprint – a working guide to current and potentially future ways for people to get around the city by foot, bike, even PTV?

Take a few minutes to let us know at www.miltonga.gov/TrailsBlueprintSurvey.

The City is constantly exploring ways to improve its transportation network so that people can get around Milton more efficiently and safely. While roadways and everything those entail are central to this, there’s a lot more to this network – because automobiles are not the only ways to get from one place to another.

That’s where the Milton Trails Blueprint comes in. The City created one previously (figure 10.7.3A in the Unified Development Code), and in recent months the Milton Trails Advisory Committee has been examining that document with an eye on recommending upgrades that enhance connectivity while protecting Milton’s rural landscape.

The results of MTAC’s hard work can be found on the draft document accessible (as a PDF) by CLICKING HERE: https://www.miltonga.gov/home/showdocument?id=8017.

For the purposes of this endeavor, "trails" typically fall within the City right-of-way or easements incorporating sidewalks and multi-use paths for walking and biking. (So they are distinct from a nature trail like you’d find, for example, at a place like Birmingham Park.) The Blueprint features Mayfield 1existing sidewalks/paths, others that are in various stages of planning-through-construction, and more aspirational opportunities (if and when they are built) to connect even more places.

This document shows private developers and the public where the City thinks trails should/could go as part of future projects. That makes it a useful visionary guide to reference. But it does not come with promises to fund and/or build any specific project. Anything along those lines must go through the City’s normal budgeting process and the development of TSPLOST project lists.

The greater community has an important role in formulating the Milton Trails Blueprint, starting by completing this brief survey. In addition to sharing thoughts on the draft map update, people can let us know what they think of surface options such as concrete, asphalt, and gravel. Anyone can also attend (and share feedback at) upcoming City Council, Milton Trails Advisory Committee, and other public meetings where this proposed document will be discussed, revised based on feedback, and ultimately voted on for adoption.

Thank you, in advance, to all those who complete this survey and participate in this process!
