Those of us who have crossed paths with Heah “Arthur” Tay – whether as a citizen, builder, or City colleague – know him as hard-working, friendly, level-headed, conscientious, smart public servant. Now we proudly know him as a Certified Building Official as well.

The City’s Plan Examiner, Tay often can be found around City Hall and Milton at various building sites. His job is to inspect properties under construction in some form to ensure that it is according to plan and compliant with relevant government code and regulations. Why is this important? Because it helps protect our community by ensuring something is safely and properly built.

The Certified Building Official certification basically lets Tay level-up, giving him even more credibility in overseeing, assessing, and enforcing City Code when it comes inspections, plan reviews, permits, and other construction-related matters.

And this certification isn’t easy to obtain. Over many months, Tay had to learn a lot of material, study hard, and take rigorous exams related to law, management, as well as building codes and standards. He passed with flying colors, making our Community Development and Building teams stronger in the process.
