All outdoor activities on Milton Parks and Recreation fields are canceled Thursday night due to bitterly cold weather.
The National Weather Service forecast for Milton calls for low temperatures around 17 degrees on Thursday night. Sustained winds from the northwest of between 5 to 15 mph are expected, with gusts as high as 20 mph – meaning the “feels like” temperature will be even lower.
Persistent exposure to such frigid weather can lead to serious health issues, especially among younger people. Given that – and in accordance with the Parks and Recreation Department’s Extreme Weather Policy – no programs should hold training or other sessions Thursday night on the fields at Bell Memorial Park, Legacy Park, or other City-affiliated facilities.
Cold conditions should continue over the next few days, especially at night when temperatures forecast should dip below freezing through the weekend. So it is possible, though not likely, that more cancellations could be forthcoming. Thankfully, the weather should not be as cold as it will be Thursday night, with increasingly warmer temperatures expected. In fact, daytime highs for the middle of next week are currently forecast to be in the high 60s.
