Proposed rural event facility use permit in Arnold Mill part of CZIM

Post Date:02/24/2025 12:49 PM

Ebenezer Activity CenterA proposed rural event facility use permit within the almost completed 23,000-square foot activity center off Arnold Mill Road, as well as several potential text amendments to City Code, will be up for discussion for the first time publicly at a Community Information Zoning Meeting (CZIM) on Tuesday.

All are welcome to attend the February 25 CZIM, which will start at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers.

Unlike Council and committee meetings, there are no presentations given, votes taken, or official recommendations made at CZIMs. Rather, these meetings provide opportunities for people to share their opinions with and ask questions to City staff about the matters under consideration.

One of those is what can happen at the newly constructed Pardue Family Center, which is part of Ebenezer Methodist Church at the intersection of Arnold Mill and Cox roads. This facility features a large hall, stage, conference/meeting rooms, a commercial and warming kitchen, as well as a pavilion, stage, and amphitheater seating outdoors.

The applicant is seeking a “rural event facility” use permit that, if granted, would allow for certain events with no more than 300 attendees. These events might include weddings and receptions, concerts and plays, community and company gatherings, and classes.

Another CZIM topic pertains to the public notice process. One of them would allow publishing the needed details for CZIMs on the City website (rather than the “legal organ” of the Milton Herald) with the same 10-day advanced notice requirement. (Letters would continue to be sent at least 15 days in advance to owners of nearby possibly impacted properties.)

Another possible change would reduce from 30 days to 15 days the advanced public notice (as published in the Milton Herald) required before requested demolitions can be considered by Milton’s Design Review Board. This revised timetable would be in accordance with local Zoning Procedures Law.

The other potential text amendment that is open for discussion at Tuesday’s CZIM would more clearly regulate commercial vehicles in Milton. Specifically, it would add language to state that commercial vehicles could be parked/stored in single-family residential and agricultural districts only if related to an active building permit.
