New pedestrian beacon signal, mast pole being added at Crabapple Road

Post Date:03/05/2025 3:21 PM
IMG_2023Crossing Crabapple Road by foot is about to get appreciably easier and safer -- though there may be some driving delays over the next few days to make that happen.

Several months ago, a new mid-block crosswalk was added connecting businesses on both sides of the street (roughly between New York Butcher Shoppe and Peace, Love, and Pizza). Some drivers did stop for pedestrians after that, but not every one of them.

That should change with the addition of a new pedestrian hybrid beacon as well as a mast arm pole across the road. When a walker presses the crosswalk button, the lights on the mast pole should go red and the street level walk sign should go white – indicating cars in both directions should stop and pedestrians can cross.

To make this happen, several large poles appeared alongside Crabapple Road and several spots have been dug up for related electrical work. And swinging malletbetween 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, and Thursday, March 6, drivers should expect single-lane closures for work in and above the road -- including a mast arm pole to traverse Crabapple Road.

Please be patient and take alternate routes if you can. With the pieces in place, the hope is that the entire project will be finished by the end of March.
