With the sun shining and a healthy hint of chill in the air, dozens of volunteers spent last Saturday making a major impact at Milton’s beloved Birmingham Park.
The crowd at the annual Clean-up Day, held on March 8, dwarfed the numbers in recent years. This allowed them, collectively, to tackle even more projects and trails for the greater community’s benefit.
The morning began with Outdoor Recreation Supervisor Jen Young welcoming everyone and sharing how she earned her unofficial “Ranger Jen” title after helping a man locate his wife who got lost somewhere in the park’s expansive 200-plus acres. Then volunteers split into groups to reroute eroded trails, add multi-colored trail signage, install a map on a newly built kiosk, mark pathways for navigation, replant garden raised beds, trim trees, and clear obstructions in trails.
In just two hours, they accomplished SO much! Thank you to everyone – including members of the Milton Equestrian and Adopt-a-Trail committees, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and all the other volunteers – who came out to lend a hand. Birmingham Park, and Milton as a whole, is even that much better, safer, and cleaner this week because of your impressive efforts.
