The Board of Zoning Appeals meets Tuesday evening to discuss two sets of variance requests – one along Freemanville Road and the other in a gated community off New Providence Road.
The March 18 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers (2006 Heritage Walk). Anyone can attend in person or watch online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y22lgDQBiDw.
Also referred to as BZA, Milton’s Board of Zoning Appeals is a quasi-judicial body that hears and weighs in on requests for variances from the City Code. The same committee also hear appeals to City decisions related to zoning ordinances, stream buffers, and sign permits. Decisions are guided by City Code (including zoning standards) and can be appealed to Fulton County Superior Court.
On Tuesday, after voting to approve the meeting’s agenda as well as “minutes” from when BZA last convened on February 18, the board will consider a variance request for 15060 FREEMANVILLE ROAD. This property sits between White Columns Drive and Deerhaven Lane in central Milton.
The applicant is seeking a single variance to allow a proposed detached garage to be located in front of an existing single-family home on the 6.3-acre property.
The next item on Tuesday’s agenda – a variance request for 100 Deerhaven Lane – is set to be withdrawn. That leaves one final item related to 575 GLEN NATIONAL DRIVE, which is in the Providence at Atlanta National neighborhood.
The applicant is seeking variances to allow an existing home, proposed addition, and proposed patio to encroach a 50-foot undisturbed stream buffer on the 1.09-acre property. The same application includes a variance request to allow the same home and proposed addition (with a covered patio) to encroach the 75-foot impervious setback.
After this week’s meeting, Milton’s Board of Zoning Appeals is next scheduled to convene the evening of April 15.
