Milton’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will discuss plans for two current and one future park, among other topics, when it convenes on Thursday.
The March 20 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. People can attend in-person or watch online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZL0WKvrg-fg.
PRAB, as the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is also known, explores topics related to City parks and facilities, recreational programs, and related policies. Its seven Council-appointed members share their views and insights with City staff and leadership.
This committee’s meetings – including the one on Thursday – routinely begin with reports detailing the latest regarding Milton’s many recreational programs. These include athletics, arts, adult, and outdoor recreation programs, as well as City-run summer camps.
After that, members will dig into the agenda’s first “New Business” item related to proposed new active park along Deerfield Parkway.
The planning for this 24.4-acre property has been underway for months, with the public sharing their opinions as part of this process. The next such opportunity will be an “Open House”-style event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, at Milton Municipal Court (13690 Highway 9 in the Milton Police building).
But before then, PRAB members will have an opportunity to weigh in. For example, they can offer their thoughts on several conceptual design alternatives that will be presented Thursday that show different layout options as well as mixes of athletic fields and other features. For more about this project, visit www.miltonga.gov/DeerfieldActivePark.
This will be followed by discussion of a new conduct policy for those who participate and volunteer in City Parks and Recreation programs. This policy outlines disciplinary measures for those who are in violation.
Then, PRAB members will offer their thoughts on a possible new program partner – Music Together with Meghan Kennedy – to lead youth music classes and camps at Milton facilities.
The final section of Thursday’s agenda is for “City Staff Reports and Communications.” Expected topics include:
- The latest on construction projects at Milton City Park and Preserve – both to add trail, nurture wildlife habitats, and institute stormwater upgrades in the “passive” area plus a future endeavor to reconfigure the parking lot and tennis courts in the “active” component.
- Plans to improve – including adding more spots to – Legacy Park’s parking lot. (New fencing is going up this month, too, at Legacy Park and Bell Memorial Park.)
- An update on Community Outreach efforts, including the Community Egg Hunt planned for between 4 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, around Cambridge High’s football field.
- Information about the ongoing process to solicit nominations for the 2025 class of Milton’s Wall of Fame, such as this newly released online video: https://www.facebook.com/thecityofmiltonga/videos/1708513236709605. After the March 20 meeting, PRAB is next scheduled to convene on April 17.
