Several guardrails around Milton are new and improved – even with a different color and added reflectors.
Gracie Gray Contractors have replaced existing guardrails at bridges along New Providence Road, Cogburn Road, and Bethany Road. These locations were chosen following an inventory and assessment of all Milton guardrails, with priority given to bridges where such railing improvements would have significant safety benefits.
Rather than the standard shiny silver, the upgraded guardrails have a brown-powder coated color to better fit in with the surroundings. It’s also important that these upgrades meet current standards and that drivers can see them in the sunlight or at night, which is why they contain special reflectors, as well as yellow and black markings at one end.
This work is funded mostly by the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Safety Action Plan. That State agency provided $240,000 to go toward the design and installation of the upgraded guardrails, with the City matching 30% of the costs.
These guardrail improvements align with our Public Works Department’s goals of ensuring that our transportation network is safe and matches our standards and preferences. Aside from larger projects like these, we also handle many day-to-day fixes and upgrades.
