Toddlers, parents celebrate Earth Day at Milton City Park and Preserve

Post Date:04/22/2025 3:49 PM
#Kids ExploringWho better to celebrate our planet on Earth Day than a bunch of adorable children, as well as the parents and guardians who love them -- and what better place to do so than Milton City Park and Preserve?

That’s what and where it happened, inside and outside of this picturesque City property, on Tuesday morning.

The monthly Toddler Tuesday event – in which adults and their youngsters, ages 1 to 5, can enjoy toys and each other’s company at MCPP’s Community Center – happened to fall on Earth Day. So, for Mother Nature’s sake, the City stepped it up several notches by offering several above-and-beyond activities:
  • Goldfish Swim School organized an environment-themed arts and crafts table where kids could color butterflies and more (while the parents could enter for the chance to win free swim lessons)
  • “Ranger Jen” Young, Milton’s Outdoor Recreation Supervisor, helped toddlers get dirty (yay!) planting zinnia flowers in compostable containers that they could take home to put in their own yards
  • #Ranger Jen and girl watering plantCity Arborist Sandra Dewitt led families along the trail leading-to-and-in the property’s greenspace component for a “leaf scavenger hunt bingo” – finding and matching leaves to their bingo cards
The skies were a little cloudy, though thankfully the rain held out for dozens of people, young and not-as-young, to enjoy the Toddler Tuesday/Earth Day festivities (which happened to fall during Georgia Cities Week). For everyone else, we hope you can celebrate the Earth today by hugging a tree, planting a flower, watching a bird, recycling your soda can, or quietly sharing your love for the great outdoors.
