Planning Commission to consider 3 potential text amendments to UDC

Post Date:04/22/2025 3:48 PM

StormwaterMilton’s Planning Commission will meet Wednesday evening to weigh in on three possible text amendments to the City’s zoning ordinance.

The April 23 meeting will start at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. People can attend in-person or watch the meeting online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZV8C7HI9x8.

Made up of seven individuals appointed by Milton’s Mayor and Councilmembers, the Planning Commission evaluates and recommends changes to zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations, zoning maps, and overall planning processes. It’s part of the public hearing process (meaning other City committees discuss some of the same subjects), sharing their thoughts with Milton’s Community Development Director.

The first item on Wednesday’s agenda is consideration of a preliminary plat for 265 Five Acre Road, where 20 townhome units have been proposed. The Planning Commission can share related comments and recommendations – which should be guided by City ordinances – on preliminary plat proposals like these with the Community Development Director. The City cannot deny a preliminary plat that fully complies with Milton zoning regulations.

This will be followed by three proposed text amendments to Milton’s zoning ordinance as written in the Unified Development Code:

  • RZ25-05 - Article 8 Use Provisions, Sec. 8.2.1 Use Table for All Districts Except Form Based Codes regarding assembly hall, event facility: This would allow assembly hall/event facilities only with an approved Use Permit within all districts except those covered by form-based codes.
  • RZ25-06- Article 2 General Provisions, Article 6 Special Purpose Districts, Article 7A Crabapple Form Based Code, Article 7B Deerfield Form Based Code, and Article 9 Site Development regarding Stormwater Facilities to correct references within the above Articles: This adds language to provide a comprehensive overview of what is required for the development of stormwater facilities and ensures that all the various Overlays and Form Based Codes are consistent in design and development of stormwater facilities.

After Wednesday’s meeting, the Planning Commission is next scheduled to convene on May 28.
