Due to logistical issues, the wellness clinic planned for May 13 has been canceled. But the other clinics should happen as detailed below.
This spring and summer, you and your neighbors can stay on top of your health – for free – thanks to Milton Fire CARES’ own registered nurse.
During these wellness checks, anyone can get electrocardiograms (EKGs) measuring their heart rate, see where their glucose levels stand, or have their blood pressure checked. These clinics will be conducted by Milton’s Derek Hofmann – a firefighter, paramedic, and registered nurse.
Each clinic will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on these dates and at these places:
- APRIL 29 at Community Place (2006 Heritage Walk, a small building next to City Hall)
- Canceled - MAY 13 at Community Place
- MAY 20 at Fire Station 43 (750 Hickory Flat Road, by the entrance to Birmingham Park)
- JUNE 3 at Fire Station 43
- JUNE 24 at Community Place
- JULY 1 at Fire Station 43
- JULY 15 at Fire Station 43
- JULY 22 at Community Place
Not only is there no cost, but no advanced registration is necessary. Just come to the location on the day noted above, and Hofmann will help you as soon as possible.
These are the latest such wellness clinics offered by Hofmann and Milton Fire CARES, the program dedicated to bringing beneficial health care services directly to the community. As such, it aligns with a broader goal of offering preventive medicine that can improve people’s lives, including by lessening the likelihood they might have to visit a doctor, be admitted to a hospital, or even call 911.
The Fires CARES mobile integrated health program offers other valuable services such as an M410 Advanced Life Support unit, which can be dispatched when someone calls 911 with a health issue. Oftentimes, this can get the patient the medical care they need without an ambulance ride or a hospital stay.
Fire CARES team members also offer free in-home visits, as well as support patients (coordinating with their medical provider) transitioning from hospital to home environments. Additionally, they regularly teach classes on CPR, AEDs, “Stop the Bleed,” and other such useful tools to give more people in our city potentially life-saving knowledge.
