That’s the lone item on the agenda for the May 20 meeting, which will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. People can attend in-person or watch online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93IbAGD3UME

Also known as BZA, this quasi-judicial committee hears requests for variances from City Code as well as appeals to City decisions related to zoning ordinances, stream buffers, and sign permits. It consists of seven individuals appointed by Milton’s Mayor and Councilmembers.

Tuesday’s agenda item focuses on 14507 COGBURN ROAD, a 1.47-acre flag lot south of Hopewell Road adjacent to the Lyndon Creek subdivision. The applicant is seeking six variances, two related to flag lot restrictions and four to accessory structures – specifically feed and equipment storage units for free-range goats and chickens.

The specific variances are requests to:

  • Reduce the 60-foot front yard minimum to 56 feet for an existing building accessory structure
  • Reduce the 25-foot minimum side yard to 22.7 feet adjacent to north property line for an existing building accessory structure
  • Reduce the 25-foot minimum side yard to 14.63 feet adjacent to south property line for an existing building accessory structure
  • Reduce the 1.5-acre minimum flag lot size to 1.472 acres for an existing property
  • Increase the 10 percent maximum flag stem area of total lot size to 13.41 percent for an existing property
  • Allow accessory structure uses to not be constructed concurrently with or after a principal structure use

After Tuesday, BZA is next scheduled to convene on June 17.
