Alpharetta crews working on Mayfield and Bethany roads; big detour coming

Post Date:07/01/2025 11:13 AM

Bethany Mayfield roundaboutCrews are working along parts of Mayfield Road and Bethany Road on a drainage-related project that will result in notable detours later this summer.

This is a City of Alpharetta project, done by an Alpharetta contractor, since the focal point of that work falls just within that City’s borders. That said, it will certainly impact Milton residents in several ways.

Starting June 23, work began in and around both Mayfield and Bethany roads – specifically the roundabout at that intersection. Crews will demolish the central truck apron and landscape island so that an underground stormwater detention system can be installed. Once that’s done, the truck apron and landscape island will be rebuilt and surrounding pavement will be redone.

When something of this scale happens – with construction workers and their vehicles moving in and around the site – traffic delays are not uncommon. Given that, please give yourself extra time to get where you need to go or, if you can, take alternate routes.

In mid-July, this project’s impact will be even more pronounced when Mayfield Road (between Freemanville and Providence roads) and Bethany Road (between Mayfield and Bethany Mayfield roundabout constructionProvidence roads) are shut down for needed work.

While those who live in the affected area will be able get to and from their homes, everyone else must take detours involving Milton’s Freemanville Road, Providence Road, and Charlotte Drive as well as Canton Street, Milton Avenue, Mid Broadwell Road, and Mayfield Road in Alpharetta. The plan is for these detours to run from July 14 to approximately July 20. As with any outdoor transportation construction project, weather and other factors could impact this timeline.

The brunt of this project is intentionally happening in the summer, when schools are not in session and more people are out of town. The idea is to minimize the disruption as much as possible. Still, it is expected that the full scope of this work will extend into September.

Whenever it happens, we understand this may be an inconvenience to many. We appreciate your understanding and patience so this necessary work can be done.
