Heritage Walk to close in 3 places for pedestrian upgrades; follow detours

Post Date:07/11/2025 8:42 AM

Heritage Walk Crabapple to Birmingham Highway Original Map 2Parts of Heritage Walk in downtown Milton will close in both directions starting this coming Monday – though people will still be able to get in-and-out of businesses and residences, even if it takes longer than usual.

Drivers should follow detour signs set-up at different locations so that crews can work in the road. The designated detours should still allow people to reach parking areas for Crabapple businesses, as well as homes nearby. That said, traffic delays are distinctly possible especially at busier times of day.

The closures are needed for alterations to the roadway – specifically the additions of speed tables, in one case replacing an existing one – in three places along Heritage Walk:

  • Between the Crabapple Road roundabout and Itaska Walk, which is a speed table only aimed at helping slow traffic
  • Between McFarlin Lane and the driveways before the Birmingham Highway roundabout, which will be a speed table combined with a crosswalk
  • Between the Birmingham Highway roundabout and the entrance to the Market District parking lot, replacing another combination speed table-crosswalk

Heritage Walk Birmingham Highway to Mayfield Original MapThe speed tables aim primarily to enhance safety for pedestrians in downtown Crabapple, both by slowing down vehicles and providing more secure crossings.

It is possible that not all three sections will be closed to traffic at once, since the same contractor will be doing this entire project. Still, people should assume that they will be and plan accordingly. Regardless, Itaska Walk, Lecoma Trace, McFarlin Lane, and Parkstead Lane will remain open throughout to provide local access.

The work should be completed by the end of July. That is very much intentional, as the City wants everything to be finished and Heritage Walk before traffic picks up and school resumes in early August.
