Milton’s Design Review Board on Tuesday will consider two requested demolitions in the District of Mayfield, as well as a proposal by a restaurant to paint their logo on the outside of a downtown building.
The August 5 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers (2006 Heritage Walk). People can attend in-person or watch the meeting online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzzooZEji20.
As part of Milton’s public hearing process, the Design Review Board (known as the DRB) considers some of the same items as other City committees. Its seven Council- and Mayor-appointed members also review and make recommendations to Milton’s Community Development Director on new construction, new site development, and certain significant alterations to existing structures. (The board does not review plans for new single-family home construction or alterations to such houses.)
Part of the DRB’s mission is reviewing and voting on demolition requests. Tuesday’s agenda contains these items requesting to demolish:
- A cottage house at 16410 HOPEWELL ROAD, on 1.38 acres by the intersection with Mountain Road), to make room for the construction of a new single-family residence
- A two-story house at 12475 BROADWELL ROAD to allow for a proposed development in the District at Mayfield
- A one-story structure at 12505 BROADWELL ROAD – so next to the other proposed demolition and also related to the same proposed development
- A one-story house, shed, and septic tank at 13285 ARNOLD MILL ROAD – a 7.88-acre property by Old Holly Road – to allow for possible new residential and minor commercial elements
- A one-story house and 2-story garage at 15425 THOMPSON ROAD (between Bell Park Drive and Thompson Springs Drive) to make room for a new construction home
At its June meeting, the Design Review Board reviewed a planned Seven Brew Drive-Thru Coffee shop on a vacant lot near a Walmart entrance at 12875 Highway 9. The DRB again will consider a proposal for this new business on Tuesday evening, this time for final reviews that incorporate comments from the last meeting as well as site changes that need to be reviewed and approved.
Seven Brew’s initial plans called for two roughly equal-sized structures (585 and 580 square feet) that will serve as a drive-through building and a pavilion. The landscaping included red maple and cherry trees, as well as ornamental plants and landscape islands next to parking spaces.
Exterior alterations for two commercial buildings in downtown Crabapple are next on the Design Review Board’s agenda.
The first is to share members’ views on painting the brick facing of Smash Burgers by Vice’s building alongside Heritage Walk in Market District Crabapple with that restaurant’s logo and some other descriptors.
The DRB then will consider granting approval for painting white Building 60 at 12220 Birmingham Highway. (This building was repainted white without the Board’s approval.)
After Tuesday, the Design Review Board is next scheduled to convene on September 2.
