Trauma, grief, suicide focuses of 2 critical mental wellness programs

Post Date:08/27/2025 11:06 AM

Sad Girl DockEvery fall, the City of Milton teams with local professionals to raise awareness as well as share potentially life-changing and even life-saving insights related to mental wellness with our community. This year, we’ll work together to make such a positive impact – times two.

The interactive, impactful program starts with the Milton Mental Wellness Webinar. This is an annual effort every September in which experts dive into a critical mental health topic, sharing invaluable information and tools that people can use. (To view previous editions of the Milton Mental Wellness Webinar, visit https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpkXg669ndraNotHzc97BEh37YY6iqFNu.)

The title of the 2025 edition is “From Heartache to Growth: Understanding Trauma, Grief, and the Power of Support.” Most everyone faces trauma in ways big or small over the course of their life – and, when they do, they face the often difficult challenge of processing it. One of the most common forms of trauma is the loss of a loved one, as people struggle to make sense of their grief and to chart a path forward.

Join our longtime partners at the LRJ Foundation, as well as professionals from JCAC Counseling, starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, for this special webinar. To be able to access it, go to www.miltonga.gov/TraumaAndGrief and enter some basic info so that you can have the webinar link in advance. You can also share questions ahead of time (so they can be addressed during the webinar) through the form found here: www.miltonga.gov/WebinarQuestions. During the actual event, those online will be able to listen, learn, and participate by asking questions. (The webinar will later be posted, in full, online for all to see.)

Just over a month later, on October 25, local mental health experts will team up once again for another event – this time an in-person workshop focused on suicide, something that our area has far too much experience with. With powerful stories, telling facts, and hands-on activities, they’ll shed light on topics such as suicide warning signs, reducing the stigma of discussing depressive and suicidal thoughts, and how to talk to your child if someone in their bubble commits suicide.

The location for that JCAC-led workshop will be Milton City Park and Preserve’s Community Center at 1785 Dinsmore Road. More details, like the exact time, will be shared on the City's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/thecityofmiltonga/) as well as Milton’s dedicated mental wellness webpage: www.miltonga.gov/mentalwellness.

On that latter webpage, you’ll find a wealth of valuable resources, insights, and other information on a host of mental health-related topics.
