Heartwood site review overheadMilton’s Design Review Board meets Tuesday evening with one item on its agenda – a review of aspects of a proposed new neighborhood in downtown Crabapple.

The September 2 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers (2006 Heritage Walk). Anyone can attend in person, or they can watch online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi6d0gh3ADs.

Commonly referred to as DRB, the Design Review Board reviews and makes recommendations to Milton’s Community Development Director on new construction, new site development, and certain significant changes to existing structures. (Its members do not review plans for new single-family homes or alterations to such houses.) The seven people on the DRB, who are appointed by the Mayor and Councilmembers, are also part of the City’s public hearing process – meaning other committees may weigh in on some of the same items.

The Design Review Board is also charged with reviewing and voting on demolition requests, though none of these are on Tuesday’s agenda. However, at its last meeting in early August, the DRB did approve two demolitions – of a two-story house and a one-story structure – on the two to-be-combined properties that are the focus of the night’s lone agenda item.

These lots are at 12475 Broadwell Road and 12505 Broadwell Road between Broadwell Pavilion to the north and Lazzara Dermatology and Mohs Surgery to the south. A developer has proposed building 13 single-family detached homes and 15 attached homes with a private road on the 7.19 combined acres.

On Tuesday, the DRB will conduct a courtesy review of the site and landscape design plan for this potentially new neighborhood, which is being called Heartwood.

After this meeting, the Design Review Board is next set to convene on Tuesday, October 7.
