From a fancy motorcycle to a video game truck, from “walking animal” balloons to a Paw Patrol star, from popular law enforcement vehicles to one fast-climbing firefighter – and a whole lot more – Milton’s Touch-a-Truck yet again lived up to the hype this Saturday.
Thousands ventured in-and-out of the event outside Stonecreek Church during the late morning and early afternoon, with festivities thankfully finishing up before a storm rolled through. During that time, there was no shortage of things for families to do and explore.
As the event’s name suggests, the vehicles took the lead. Touch-a-Truck isn’t just about seeing or laying a finger on something cool on wheels. It’s about giving kids memorable, interactive experiences like playing paramedic inside an ambulance or climbing behind the wheel of a tractor. There was so much to check out, such as trash bin cleaner, a moving truck, even a Ducati motorcycle.
Public service-related vehicles were a hit as well. Families enjoyed checking out a Milton police patrol car and Fulton County SWAT vehicle. Also on-site was Milton Fire’s Support Unit and a quint, that department’s largest apparatus named as such for five firefighting tools it contains
-- a pump, a water tank, a fire hose, ground ladders, and an aerial device that can be extended significantly. Firefighter Chris Seay even climbed the quint’s 110-foot latter, twice, just as he or others might need to do in an emergency situation.
Youngsters lined up, too, to get twisted balloons, have their faces painted, and jump on the giant inflatables. Several food trucks offered plenty of midday treats. Plus. Marshall of Paw Patrol fame found himself mobbed mostly in the playzone area. (Fun fact: The lovable, excitable Dalmatian is his team’s firedog, making him a Milton Fire-Rescue favorite.)
THANK YOU to Stonecreek Church, our partner in running this always awesome event! We appreciate, too, the many business sponsors who helped make it possible. And last but not least, we’re very grateful for all those young and not-as-young who came out Saturday to join the fun!
