Citizens talk about how to improve Birmingham Hwy. safety, flow at Open House

Post Date:09/19/2025 3:30 PM

Attendees Pointing Faces VisibleCitizens with ample firsthand knowledge of the present situation at and deep interest in the future of the southern portion of Birmingham Highway engaged Thursday evening with project team members.

Participants asked questions and shared ideas on how to make this area safer, more efficient, and all-around better for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians alike. Conversations focused in large part on school drop-off and pick-up times, given those are when this area tends to get the most congested and creates gridlock at the Heritage Walk roundabout.

Crabapple Crossing Elementary, Northwestern Middle, and Milton High are all in this immediate vicinity, with that traffic especially compounded during the morning rush hour. Several residents raised concerns about traffic patterns and families parking in their neighborhoods, as well as the possibility of more multi-use paths that can accommodate PTVs.

The starting point for many of these discussions was a preliminary concept layout that features several potential improvements. That same Preliminary Concept Layout Displaylayout can also be viewed HERE: https://www.miltonga.gov/home/showdocument?id=8707.

This Open House took place early in a process that involves several pivotal stakeholders. Those include Fulton County Schools as well as the Georgia Department of Transportation, which has final say on any changes to Birmingham Highway since it’s a state route (State Route 372, to be exact).

If you missed this Open House, no worries! We’ll let you know about future engagement events here on Facebook, via email, as well as on the City’s website. And you can share your thoughts anytime – while learning all about this project – on our dedicated webpage, www.miltonga.gov/BirminghamHighway.
