Birmingham Road, New Bull Pen Road getting paving makeovers

Post Date:09/29/2025 1:14 PM
Paving after FDR. Birmingham Road Near Birmingham CrossroadsTwo northwest Milton roads should finish their paving makeover this week, with crews working diligently over the coming days to finish them up.

As happens with such projects, the progress being made along New Bull Pen Road (which runs from Birmingham Highway into Cherokee County) and Birmingham Road (between Birmingham Crossroads/Highway and Freemanville Road) may result in delays. So please give yourself extra time to move through this area or seek alternate routes.

The most heavy-duty work – “full-depth reclamations,” in which pavement is ground down to dirt so it can rebuilt – occurred last week, intentionally timed that way over Cherokee and Forsyth county schools' Fall Break (when there should have been less traffic). Crews laid down asphalt binder on New Bull Pen Road last Friday, with the same happening on Monday along Birmingham Road. That makes me for a much smoother ride.

Still, there’s more to be done. Crews will mill approaches to both roads, then do add the final asphalt layer – at times alternating between New Bull Pen and Birmingham roads (so one road may be quieter at some points). The goal is to have all this done by the end of Friday.
