The October 16 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers (2006 Heritage Walk). People can attend in-person or watch online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3Uwrjcwv6w.

Referred to as PRAB, this committee consists of seven individuals appointed by Milton’s Mayor and City Councilmembers who share their valuable insights and opinions on parks, programs, policies, and related matters. For more about this Board, visit https://www.miltonga.gov/government/boards-committees/parks-and-recreation-advisory-board.

Thursday’s meeting will start, as is customary, with committee updates on various Milton-affiliated recreation programs. These span from athletics (like NAFL football, tennis, and lacrosse) to arts classes to adult programs to outdoor recreation.

This will be followed by what’s become a highlight of several recent PRAB meetings: the formal induction – through a pledge and badge ceremony – of Junior Rangers. These young nature explorers have participated in hands-on activities, learning experiences, and more to better understand and connect with the outdoors. To find out more about this program (including how to get your own child involved), go to www.miltonga.gov/JuniorRangers.

City staff will then report on the following topics, sharing new information and answering questions along the way:

  • WALL OF FAME: The seventh class of Milton’s Wall of Fame will be honored during a ceremony starting at 11 a.m.  on Saturday, October 25, at Bell Memorial Park. They are Chris Rech, Juan and Katie Salas, Maureen “Mo” Wales, and David Winsness. The Wall of Fame is a place to celebrate outstanding athletes and artists with Milton roots, as well as exemplary coaches and contributors to our parks and recreation community. • COMMUNITY OUTREACH UPDATE: Fall is a busy time in Milton, in many ways. These include another successful Crabapple Fest earlier this month, as well as upcoming events such as Carvin’ in Crabapple, the Veterans Day breakfast, and Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. And December gets even busier with a packed slate of holiday-themed events.
  • DEERFIELD ACTIVE PARK: City staff will share an update on the effort to create a new active park, with athletic fields and various amenities, in the Deerfield area in southeastern Milton.
  • MILTON CITY PARK AND PRESERVE: The ongoing transformation of Milton City Park and Preserve continues, both in its passive and active components. The former project is now very much underway, including a new winding gravel path, boardwalks, trees and shrubs, habitat enhancements, educational signage, as well as stormwater upgrades, in the property’s “North Woods.” Another, set to begin later this year, will makeover the 7-acre active component of MCPP by reconfiguring the parking lot along with redoing the tennis courts (adding 6, so 2 more than currently, and a viewing pavilion), enhancing lighting, and erecting a playground.
  • LEGACY PARK: The City also plans to make improvements soon to Legacy Park, the athletic complex off Cox Road near where it meets Arnold Mill Road. The upgrades will focus on the parking lot, specifically a reconfiguration to make it more spacious, safe, and accessible.

After Thursday’s meeting, PRAB is next set to convene on November 13.
