About 2 dozen pine beetle-infested trees to come down at Bell Memorial Park

Post Date:12/01/2025 5:32 PM
Bell Tree 2025 2

***UPDATE***
This work is now scheduled to happen the week of December 8th (not a week earlier as previously planned.) The post below has been revised to reflect the new date.

***ORIGINAL POST***
Unfortunately, about two dozen trees will soon come down at Bell Memorial Park – each of them victims of pine beetles.

This work is expected to start the week of December 8 (not on Tuesday, December 2, as previously planned) when the City’s contractor at One Two Tree will begin felling the infested trees before they fall on their own, because of their condition, and potentially hurt those walking nearby. This will happen on the rustic part of the loop trail on Bell’s eastern side and behind the rectangular football/lacrosse fields.

Most of the trail will remain open, though (for their own safety) visitors should heed signs to avoid areas where trees will be actively coming down.

The expectation is that this will all wrap up by the following Monday, so December 8 (if not earlier). Of course, weather and other factors could impact this timeline. (Note: An earlier version of this Web story had the work starting December 1; that's been changed after the schedule changed.)

We’d like to thank folks in advance for their patience and understanding at this sad but necessary step.
