High schoolers can apply for 2026 Leadership Program with outdoor rec focus

Post Date:01/05/2026 1:04 PM
Bell Tree 2025 2Milton high schoolers who appreciate parks, the outdoors, and the role that government plays in connecting the community to both are encouraged to apply now to be part of the next iteration of the City’s Youth Government Leadership Program.

To do so, take and complete the application – found at www.miltonga.gov/YGLPApplication -- then email it to Human Resources Manager Ashley Kelly at Ashley.Kelly@miltonga.gov.

This special, unpaid internship is open to high school juniors and seniors who live in Milton, with one spot reserved for a Fulton County Schools’ TAG student and the other open to a private or public school student. The deadline to apply is midnight on Friday, January 9.

During the late winter and spring of 2026, those involved in the Youth Government Leadership program – which is managed by the City’s HR Department – will work closely with members of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department with a special focus on outdoor recreation. The chosen high schoolers will get behind-the-scenes perspectives, unique insights, and visits to various City facilities – not to mention the opportunity to make real, valuable, positive impacts in the Milton community.

The time commitment is flexible, as approximately 4 to 6 hours weekly during normal City of Milton operating hours.

As part of the experience, Youth Government Leadership Program interns will methodically undertake a capstone project that can lead to difference-making opportunities within City government. The projects will be shared with City leaders at the end of the spring semester.
Those with questions about the Youth Government Leadership Program can direct them to Ashley Kelly at Ashley.Kelly@miltonga.gov.
