Equestrian Committee to look ahead to 2026 plans at first meeting

Post Date:01/06/2026 3:05 PM

Jen Young horsesThe Milton Equestrian Committee will look ahead to 2026 on Wednesday night when it convenes for the first time this year.

The January 7 meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. People can attend in-person or watch online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo6oJYZ3W1g.

The MEC, as this committee is sometimes referred to, considers matters of importance to the local equestrian community. Its seven members, who are appointed by Milton’s Mayor and Councilmembers, share their insights, opinions, and expertise with City staff as well as elected officials.

Before Wednesday’s meeting can be officially called to order, MEC members plan to select the officers for 2026. These include appointments of a Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary.

The committee then will move to official business, starting with an update on the next “Clean-up Day” at Birmingham Park. Weather permitting, this will take place from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, at the picturesque 200-acre natural park in northwest Milton.

This will be followed by a discussion of fireworks in and around New Year’s Eve in Milton. Last June, the City Council approved a measure to bar fireworks being set off within 200 yards of the border of any property with horses. This prohibition applies every day of the year – including the handful (such as New Year’s Eve) that loud fireworks were permitted in Milton, in accordance with State law.

The final item on Wednesday’s agenda is a discussion of the Milton Equestrian Committee’s 2026 goals and objectives. In the recent past, this board has served in multiple ways such as through public education, contributing to Milton’s large lot incentive project, and helping spearhead equestrian-themed events like Meet the Neighbor.

After Wednesday’s meeting, the MEC is next set to convene on February 11.
