PRAB to weigh in on postpartum fitness, self-defense programs

Post Date:01/13/2026 4:25 PM

IMG_5885Milton’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on Thursday will choose its new leaders for 2026, as well as weigh-in on two potentially new programs – one for new mothers, the other for self-defense.

The January 15 meeting will start at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers, with everyone invited to attend in-person or watch online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYojPPEy034.

This committee, commonly referred to as PRAB, shares its opinions, insights, and expertise with City staff and leadership on park facilities, recreational activities, as well as related City rules, policies, and programs. Its seven members are appointed by Milton’s Mayor and Councilmembers.

For the last decade, PRAB has been led by Scott Stachowski (who was on the committee five years before becoming Chair). The first thing that the 2026 edition will do Thursday is select a new Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary for the coming year.

Members will then proceed to official business, starting with approval of their December meeting’s “minutes” (or official written record) and committee reports. The latter consist of brief updates on various City-affiliated recreation programs ranging from sports to arts to outdoor activities to fitness classes to camps.

Related to this, PRAB next will appoint which of its members will act as liaisons to the various programs over the coming year. In this role, they’ll be charged with keeping up-to-speed on key developments and sharing that information, as appropriate, with the full board.

Committee members then will share their views on the City possibly adding a pair of new recreation programs.

For one of them, professionals from Monumental Physical Therapy and Performance would bring a postpartum well program to Milton. This will involve leading fitness classes tailored to new mothers.

The other potential City-program provider partnership would be with the Mighty Hands Foundation. Mighty Hands hopes to conduct monthly one-hour self-defense classes – specifically teaching Gracie Jiu-Jitsu-based techniques, including escapes and defensive positioning, as well as awareness, prevention, and response instruction – for anyone ages 12 and older. (This would be in addition to Roman’s Kicks and Tricks, a no-contact karate program for children between 4 and 8-years-old.)

After Thursday, PRAB’s next meeting is scheduled for February 19.
