Milton’s Design Review Board will meet Tuesday to vote on proposed demolitions at one “large lot” property and conduct a courtesy review for variance requests for another such property.
The February 3 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. People can attend in-person or watch online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RtNXeFxYJE.
Often referred to as DRB, the Design Review Board is a City committee whose seven appointed members make recommendations to the City’s Community Development Director on new site development, new construction, and certain alterations to existing structures. Its members also conduct courtesy reviews on requests for variances from the City Code as part of the public meeting process (meaning other committees may take up the same items).
The DRB also is charged with voting on demolition requests, with one up for consideration Tuesday for 16225 Birmingham Highway, a 3.3-acre property north of Birmingham Crossroads. (Milton defines “large lot” as being three acres or larger.) The applicant is seeking to demolish several structures – the biggest being an approximately 1,024-square foot house along with a 672-square foot concrete block house, outbuildings, sheds, a barn, and a playset – along with fencing.
Design Review Board members then will conduct a courtesy review for a two-part variance request related to 2410 Bethany Bend, which is accessible between Hopewell Road and Bethany Church Road.
The two requests pertain to a guest house, specifically to allow it to be 1) 44 square feet larger than the current allowed maximum size (so 1,544 sq. feet, rather than 1,500 sq. feet) and 2) located technically in front of an existing single-family home. According to the applicant, “this is a large lot” – 7 acres, in total – “with high density screening from the existing tree coverage.”
After Tuesday’s meeting, the DRB is next scheduled to convene on March 3.
