The Milton Equestrian Committee will meet Wednesday to discuss big things planned for this year – from a pair of upcoming events to establishing more far-reaching goals and objectives.
Consisting of seven members appointed by the Mayor and Councilmembers, the Milton Equestrian Committee (sometimes referred to as MEC) discusses matters of importance to the equestrian community. They share their insights, opinions, and expertise with City staff as well as City leaders, including the City Council.
Wednesday’s meeting will begin with updates on annual events that involve the equestrian community as a whole, and the Milton Equestrian Committee specifically.
The first on the calendar is Birmingham Park Clean-Up Day, which will be from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 28. Anyone is welcome to volunteer to help clear trails, pick-up debris, remote potential hazards, and otherwise improve this picturesque 200-acre nature park in northwest Milton. (If you can join, let us know in advance at
www.miltonga.gov/BirminghamParkCleanUp.) Birmingham Park is beloved to many in our city, including those who enjoy riding horses on its trails – which helps explain the Milton Equestrian Committee’s routine involvement in this clean-up day.
“Meet the Neighbors” is scheduled (weather-permitting) for April 18 at another City space with equestrian amenities -- the pasture-filled, 21-acre greenspace

at the corner of Freemanville and Birmingham roads. On Wednesday, MEC will discuss this event aimed at those in the equestrian community as well as those who appreciate Milton’s rural vibe. “Meet the Neighbors” generally features vendors, animals, a demonstration by Milton Fire’s large animal rescue unit, and organizations with horse/equestrian associations. (Interested in being a vendor? Then go to

After this update, the Milton Equestrian Committee will step-back to discuss its goals and objectives for this year.
One topic that MEC explored at length in 2025, and will discuss again on Wednesday, are opportunities to incentivize the creation and retention of large lots (which Milton defines as being 3 acres or bigger). The Milton Equestrian Committee has been sharing its insights with City Community Development staff on this initiative.
Wednesday’s meeting will end with a discussion about potentially creating equestrian-themed informational pamphlets. Such pamphlets – which may be placed in civic spaces and be handed out at City events – align with an important aspect of the Milton Equestrian Committee’s mission to educate, inform, and connect people with equestrian community.
After this meeting, MEC is next scheduled to convene on March 18.
