Meet the Neighbors, possible equestrian camp on MEC's next agenda

Post Date:03/17/2026 8:05 AM

Boy on the HorseThe Milton Equestrian Committee will meet Wednesday to discuss special community offerings over the coming months – one a beloved public celebration of all things horses, the other a potential equestrian summer camp.

Those are among the items on the agenda for the March 18 meeting, which will start at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall. People can watch online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLr1JdRc9uY or attend in-person inside Council Chambers.

Consisting of seven members appointed by Milton’s Mayor and City Council, the Milton Equestrian Committee considers matters of importance to the equestrian community. Its members spearhead events, promote programs, and offer their opinions, advice, and expertise to City staff and leaders.

One of the highpoints on the equestrian community’s calendar – assuming Mother Nature cooperates – is Meet the Neighbors. Open to anyone who loves horses, whether they ride them regularly or simply appreciate their unique vibe, is welcome to attend the next edition from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the City’s pasture-filled Freemanville- Birmingham greenspace (15660 Freemanville Road). On Wednesday, MEC members will talk with City staff about what’s planned for this soon approaching event, as well as how they might contribute.

Members then will reengage in a discussion (from its February meeting) on their goals and objectives as a committee for this year.

The next agenda item is a discussion of possibly creating and disseminating a survey to get viewpoints on the best ways to incentivize people to retain (or even expand) their horse farms and/or larger properties.

MEC will close out Wednesday’s meeting by talking about a potential equestrian summer camp program for children. The Milton Parks and Recreation Department can help facilitate such a camp should there be one.

After this meeting, the Milton Equestrian Committee is next set to convene on April 15.
