April is a great time in Milton to enjoy and appreciate the outdoors, as well as to do what you can to protect the natural environment. And throughout the month, the City is offering several opportunities to do all the above.
The City of Milton’s Earth Week celebration kicks off on April 13, starting at 6 p.m., when a special environmentally-minded proclamation will be read at a City Council meeting. Two days later on April 15, from 4-5:30 p.m., you can stop by the next Wild Walk Wednesday in which “Ranger Jen” Young (the City’s Outdoor Recreation Supervisor) will point out plants, birds, animals, and more during a free, group hike in Providence Park. (This happens every third Wednesday of the month in the same park.) Trees will be a focus of this particular Wild Walk Wednesday, so amateur arborists might be especially intrigued.
The biggest of eight action-packed Earth-themed days is April 18. On that Saturday, there will be three unique events at three different City locations. So you can go to-and-from:
- The Trail Grand Opening at Milton City Park and Preserve, which will run from 9 a.m. to noon in the park at 1785 Dinsmore Road. This is a public celebration of MCPP’s expanded trail project, which created a 2.5-mile loop, added a pier and boardwalks, and features additional upgrades to support wildlife habitats.
One of this event’s highlights will be a Trail Mix Hike, in which people can pick up trail mix ingredients (think granola, M&Ms, pretzels, dried cranberries, etc.) between 9 and 11 a.m. or while supplies last. Attendees can also get the buzz on bees from the Milton Bee Club, take home a tree seedling, create crafts, get a balloon twisted, have their face painted, and more. And they can also pick-up budding wildflowers grown by students in Cambridge High School’s agriculture program to plant on their own properties.
- Our latest Electronics Recycling Event will run between 9 and 11 a.m. that same day in City Hall’s parking lot. This is your chance to discard most anything (from a mini-refrigerator on down in size) that you can plug in. Junkluggers will take it from there, ensuring items are reused, recycled, or otherwise repurposed.
- Meet the Neighbors is Milton’s horse-themed event featuring vendors, food trucks, pony rides, and equestrian-related activities, demonstrations, and more. This 2026 edition will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that Saturday in the Freemanville-Birmingham greenspace (weather permitting).
A few days later, on April 21 (between 9 a.m. and noon then 3 to 5 p.m.), toddlers and their adult loved ones (parents, grandparents, nannies, etc.) are invited to Toddler Tuesday. This is a free, once-a-month chance for little ones to play and socialize at Milton City Park and Preserve’s Community Center. This edition will have an Earth Week theme with activities like creating crafts, making pinecone bird feeders with “Ranger Jen” Young (in the morning only) and decorating flower pots.
Earth Day itself falls one day afterward on April 22, like it does every year. On that day, we encourage everyone to venture out on a trail, recycle a bottle, plant some flowers, or otherwise find a way to enjoy and connect with nature. Then again, you can enjoy doing all that any day of the year in Milton!
