CPAC to focus on branding, placemaking, and rural heritage

Post Date:04/02/2026 8:18 AM

City of Milton_2C-blackThe Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee reconvenes on Thursday with a two-fold focus – placemaking and rural heritage.

The April 2 meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. Anyone can attend in-person or watch online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHc-jaRIZ2c.

The City did a thorough rewrite of its Comprehensive Plan five years ago, envisioning what the community wanted Milton to look, function, and feel like over the next 20 years and devising measures that can be undertaken to help make that happen. You can learn more about that process and see the resulting document at www.miltonga.gov/ComprehensivePlan

Placemaking parkThis year, the City is embarking on a more moderate update to its Comprehensive Plan. This document will check-in on past progress and confirm that efforts going forward – as detailed in a new list of priority projects (a.k.a. a “short-term work program”) – align with the Plan’s community-driven vision. In addition, it will incorporate elements of more recent plans and studies, as well as update economic and demographic data.

The Comprehensive Advisory Plan Committee, or CPAC, plays a pivotal role in providing citizens’ perspectives to inform this update. Its 16 members come from different City committees, have different backgrounds, and generally have a range of attributes and insights to offer.

Thursday’s meeting will begin with a debrief of CPAC’s March 5 meeting, followed by a deep dive into BRANDING AND PLACEMAKING. In 2023, the City partnered with an outside agency to revamp Milton’s branding guide to provide new color and font options, as well as revised logos. CPAC will get an introduction to what’s happened to date, as well as an overview of how this branding can be put into action. Members will also discuss placemaking, which refers to the planning, design, and management of public spaces through elements such as signage, art, landscaping, gathering areas, amenities, seating, and more.

After this discussion, CPAC will talk about “RURAL HERITAGE” and what it means in Milton. The concept of rural heritage is mentioned in numerous City documents such as its Strategic Plan, which identifies protecting as one of Milton’s five core values.
