A fire caused significant damage Thursday night to a home, accessory structures, and multiple vehicles along Redd Road, though firefighters managed to safely contain the blaze without anyone requiring transport for medical care.
The 911 call reporting a fire on Redd Road, between Hagood and Brittle roads, came in at 7:42 p.m. Thursday. Milton firefighters were out the door a minute later, and on the scene just six minutes after that.
They arrived to find a fully involved fire with flames at an accessory structure and the property’s residence. Roughly a half-dozen golf carts accelerated the fire’s intensity and duration.
Dry conditions and wind, along with heat associated with the burning carts, contributed to the fire spreading especially fast and hot. Intermittent popping and small explosions could be heard, which
are common for such large structure fires. Three neighbors also called 911 to report spot fires (sparked by flying embers) in their own yards.
Milton firefighters – with significant and much appreciated assistance from Alpharetta Fire – swiftly extinguished those spot fires before they could damage structures on any nearby lots. They contained the fire to the single property, though unfortunately not before flames made its home uninhabitable. No one needed to be transported for medical care, though one civilian was assessed on-scene for possible injuries.
The fire’s origin and cause remain under investigation.
The Milton Fire-Rescue Department is grateful for support from colleagues in Alpharetta, the Milton Police Department, as well as the Milton and Alpharetta Volunteer Fire Corps.
The property owner also told Milton Fire that he is very appreciative of firefighters’ efforts as well as generous offers of assistance from the greater Milton community. He added that he wants people to know he is OK and does not have any immediate needs.
