Earth Week event highlighted by herbs, crafts, expanded trail

What a great way to celebrate Earth Week.

Everything described above and more (cotton candy included) happened on Saturday, April 18, at Milton City Park and Preserve. And hundreds of citizens, young and old, took advantage of both a great event and great weather.

Inside the Community Center, attendees created environmental-themed arts, crafts, coloring, and more. Just outside, they learn from a bird expert, volunteers from the Milton Bee Club and North Fulton Master Gardeners (who helped kids with planting take-home herbs), and picked up wildflower seedlings nurtured by Cambridge High agriculture program students. We appreciate, too, sons and moms from the YMSL Milton Chapter for putting together the birdhouses.

From the Community Center, scores of people set off to explore the park’s now 2.5-mile trail loop. Thanks to volunteers of all stripes who manned the “trail mix hike” stations to distribute yummy goodies for the hikers.

All in all, with sunny skies and warm temperatures, it was a terrific day to enjoy nature. And, rest assured, we in Milton will keep enjoying and appreciating the outdoors all spring, summer, fall, and winter. We sure do have a fantastic hometown to do it in!
