Planning Commission to consider festival/event text amendment

Post Date:04/21/2026 2:49 PM

City HallMilton’s Planning Commission meets Wednesday night to consider a single proposed text amendment related to festival or event uses at facilities.

The April 22 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. People can watch it online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHJW9TZ2nT8 or attend in person.

Consisting of seven individuals appointed by Milton’s Mayor and Councilmembers, the Planning Commission evaluates and recommends potential changes to zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations, zoning maps, and overall planning processes. It’s also part of the public hearing process, meaning other City committees discuss and share their thoughts on some of the same items, such as variance requests.

After a consideration of the “minutes” (or official written record) of when it last convened on March 25, the Planning Commission will tackle an item listed under the “Consideration of Text Amendments to the Unified Development Code” section of the meeting agenda.

This item refers to a proposed text amendment that, if ultimately approved, would prohibit the use “Festivals, or Events, Outdoor/Indoor” and remove from applicable Use Tables and the required parking table of the Unified Development Code.

This measure would not impact existing operations with these approved uses. Nor would it affect the separate Special Events Permitting process, or other “Event Facility” Use Permits outlined elsewhere in the City Code. There are other avenues within the Code (in addition to the Special Events permitting process) to accommodate events across various zoning districts. This text amendment, if approved, would eliminate one use over the long-term that has limited applicability.

After Wednesday’s meeting, this text amendment can be discussed and, as early as May 18, voted on by the City Council.

The Planning Commission, meanwhile, is next scheduled to convene on May 27.
