Milton’s Design Review Board on Tuesday will vote on three demolitions as well as conduct courtesy reviews for variance requests involving a pair of properties.
The May 5 meeting will start at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. People can attend in-person or watch online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RaMvW-agNE.
Often shortened to DRB, the Design Review Board is part of Milton’s public meeting process – meaning other committees may also consider some of the same items, such as its courtesy reviews for variances from City Code. The appointed seven-member board makes recommendations to Milton’s Community Development Director about new site development, new construction, and certain alterations to existing structures.
The Design Review Board is also charged with voting on demolition requests, like those on Tuesday’s agenda.
One is to demolish several structures – including a house and shed – plus all or parts of driveways on a 6.98-acre parcel at 14880 Freemanville Road (north of Rolling Links Drive). Staff plans to recommend a pause to give the Milton Historical Society time to evaluate the home in question and, if feasible, pursue preservation alternatives.
A different applicant has requested to demolish a one-story brick home and 3 wooden sheds at 16440 Hopewell Road, a 4.71-acre property north of Mountain Road.
The meeting’s third and final demolition request is 655 Dorris Road, a 6.9-acre lot at the intersection with Birmingham Highway. The applicant is asking to demolish a barn and stable, both built in 2002, while leaving other buildings untouched.
The Design Review Board then will conduct a courtesy review for a five-part variances request for 14115 Brittle Road, a 1.58-acre lot at the corner of Redd Road. The requested variances are to:
- Reduce the 25-foot minimum (interior) side-yard minimum setback to 10 feet adjacent to the east property line for a proposed guest house
Reduce the 40-foot minimum side-yard (street) setback to 27.96 feet adjacent to the west property line and Brittle Road for a proposed guest house
- Reduce the 25-foot minimum side-yard (interior) setback to 10 feet adjacent to east property line – in this case for a proposed primary single-family home
- Reduce the 50-foot minimum rear-yard setback to 42.33 feet adjacent to south property line for a proposed carport accessory structure
- Allow a proposed guest house to be located in front of a proposed single-family home
The night’s final agenda item is another variance courtesy review for 2215 Dinsmore Road, a 2.17-acre property west of Thompson Road. The applicant wants to reduce the 25-foot minimum side-yard setback to 10.5 feet adjacent to the west property line for a new garage (with Nellie Stevens shrubs added for screening).
After Tuesday, the Design Review Board’s next meeting is scheduled for June 2.
