The Milton Police welcome our community’s involvement in marking Police Week, a once-a-year opportunity to honor sacrifices, strengthen connections, and salute officers in law enforcement.
This year, Police Week will run from May 10 through 16 nationally and here in Milton. In line with then-President John F. Kennedy’s 1962 proclaiming May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, this serves as an apt time to pause and remember officers who gave their lives in the line of duty.
In Milton, Police Week is also about giving back. To that end, the MPD asks for citizens to help make a difference in a specific way – by giving blood. According to the American Red Cross, someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds. Your selfless donation can help patients recovering from surgeries, going through cancer treatments, battling chronic illnesses, or coping with traumatic injuries.
This year’s blood drive will be from 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, at Stonecreek Church (which neighbors the Milton Police station). To schedule your time to give, go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter this sponsor code: MPD. Those who donate likely will run into some of our very own police officers who are doing the same.
The week will culminate Friday, May 15, starting at 4 p.m., with the annual Milton Police Department Awards Ceremony. Anyone is welcome to come to Milton Municipal Court at that time to cheer on officers being sworn in, promoted, and awarded across a range of categories. The honors include the Life Saving Award, Medal of Valor, Supervisor of the Year, and Officer of the Year, as well as recognitions for Citizen of the Year and Civilian of the Year (for non-sworn Milton Police employees).
